Stoffel Vandoorne will make a return to F1 machinery with Aston Martin at the upcoming Pirelli tyre test in Belgium. The Italian tyre manufacturer's test takes place after the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, with the two-day programme on August 1-2 following up on the test at Silverstone post-British Grand Prix. Belgian Vandoorne, who drove two full seasons for McLaren in 2017 and 2018 before switching to Formula E - where he became World Champion with Mercedes - joined Aston Martin at the start of the current campaign as the Silverstone-based outfit's reserve and simulator driver. He last drove an F1 car for Mercedes during the 2020 Young Drivers' Test, following the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Pirelli has been undergoing tests with a view to next year, with a vote on a prospective tyre blanket ban drawing nearer.
