Two drivers penalised after Canada's Friday practice

Lance Stroll and Yuki Tsunoda will both find themselves slightly out of pocket after speeding in the pit lane on Friday at Montreal.

Lance Stroll and Yuki Tsunoda have become the first drivers to fall foul of the Canadian Grand Prix stewards, with both given fines for speeding in the pit lane during Friday practice at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. AlphaTauri's Tsunoda can count himself a little unlucky, having exceeded the 80 km/h speed limit by just 0.4 km/h. The Japanese will receive a fine of 100 euros for his misdemeanour. Local hero Stroll, however, flouted the speed limit altogether more comprehensively, clocking 97.8 km/h as he crossed the pit lane line. For his violation, the Aston Martin driver was slapped with a 1,000 euro fine. Both drivers may be relieved that they will not receive any penalty points on their FIA Super License for these indiscretions, with both Tsunoda and Stroll having already accrued five points over the past 12 months. Accruing 12 points inside a 12-month period will result in an automatic one-race ban, though no driver has yet fallen foul of this sanction.
