Two dead, one critical after tragic bike racing accident

This is terrible news for the motorsport community.

Two riders were tragically killed, and another was seriously injured following an accident in a British bike racing event on Monday.

The incident occurred in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race at Oulton Park. Understandably, the deaths led to the cancellation of the remainder of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship event.

Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, died after a chain-reaction accident on the exit of Turn 1 on the opening lap in which 11 riders were involved. The race was immediately stopped, and trackside medical services were deployed.

Jenner was taken to the circuit medical centre, and despite attempts at resuscitation, died from what has been described in a statement as "a catastrophic head injury".

Richardson was initially treated trackside, then taken to the circuit medical centre before being transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital with severe chest injuries. He died before arrival.

Tom Tunstall, 47, is currently being treated at the Royal Stoke University Hospital with significant back and abdominal injuries.

A further five riders, Carl Harris, Max Morgan, Cameron Hall, Freddie Barnes, and Morgan McLaren-Wood, were treated at the circuit medical centre with minor injuries

Three further riders, Lewis Jones, Corey Tinker, and George Edwards, were also involved but were uninjured.

The Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and MotorSport Vision Racing statement said they are "investigating the full circumstances of the incident in conjunction with the coroner and Cheshire Constabulary".

Further statements will be issued when available.

RacingNews365 would like to send its condolences to the family and friends of Owen Jenner and Shane Richardson, and wishes Tom Tunstall a full and speedy recovery.
