There was a surprise name near the top of the timing sheet on the third and final day of testing in Bahrain, with Yuki Tsunoda announcing himself to the F1 world. The Japanese driver put in the second fastest lap of the day, just behind Max Verstappen, and was faster than other drivers on the C5 tyres, including Lewis Hamilton. As a result the rookie was more than pleased with how things went. "It was a very, very good day for me," Tsunoda told F1 TV after Sunday's final day of testing. "I have made a lot of progress and we have had no problems. I completed a lot of laps and I wanted that too. We have had some bad luck now and then over the past few days, but everything came together." AlphaTauri completed more laps than every other team, and Tsunoda was more than happy with the work he and teammate Pierre Gasly completed over the course of the weekend. "The team did a really good job and the car was very comfortable to drive," Tsunoda added. "It was very good. We collected good data and it was a day to enjoy. I learned a lot, did some racing simulation and learned a lot about the tyres. "I loved driving the C5 tyres because then you really have a lot of grip. I had never experienced that before."
