Toto Wolff lashes out at 'disgraceful Teletubby engineers' at Hungarian GP

Toto Wolff has criticised engineers at rival F1 teams for failing to intervene after the blue flag system malfunctioned during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Several front-running drivers were left frustrated while trying to navigate lapped traffic on Sunday.

A system failure meant many backmarkers were not alerted that the leaders were approaching to lap them, with one incident resulting in contact between Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz.

Traffic also hindered Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton during their battle, leaving the Mercedes driver frustrated after losing time behind slower cars.

Wolff argued that the affected teams' engineers should have done more to alert their drivers and help avoid the disruption.

"The marshalling system [was] not functioning and cars at the back defending in the Lewis and Kimi fight,” Wolff told Sky F1.

“It's disgraceful from some of the Teletubbies engineers that sit on the pit walls of these teams not telling their drivers what's happening behind.”

Antonelli ended the race in third place while team-mate George Russell had to settle for seventh on the road.

The Briton was forced into a recovery drive after his car jumped into anti-stall at the start of the grand prix, an issue Mercedes has taken blame for.

“Yet again, we did a mistake screwing George's start,” Wolff said. “It's not acceptable and not good enough from us.

"Overall today I'm just not happy about the whole situation, but when I am going to calm down we are taking a solid gap in the drivers' championship into the summer, a good gap in the constructors' championship, and that is a credit to a fast car, great team.”
