Theo Pourchaire has insisted that securing a seat on next season’s Formula E grid for the arrival of Gen4 is a top priority, in a bid to return to single-seater racing—especially with it expected to be "close to F1".
RacingNews365 understands the Frenchman is one of the options on the table to race for the brand-new Opel outfit next season, a Stellantis-owned factory team that confirmed its entry at the recent Madrid E-Prix.
Pourchaire was destined for F1 after securing the Formula 2 title in 2023 and was seen by many as a supreme talent; yet, unfortunately, things did not materialise in his favour.
A brief spell in IndyCar in 2024 marked his last race in single-seaters, although he has been a regular tester in Formula E for Stellantis’ brands in the championship.
In recent years, he has made rookie test appearances for Maserati and Citroën and has also tested Stellantis’ Gen4 car, with him expected to conduct further tests later this year.
Discussing the arrival of Opel opening up more seats, Pourchaire told RacingNews365: "No, for sure. The fact that there is one more team as well opens up more opportunities.
"But, yeah, we’ll see. I would love to be driving in Formula E because it’s a single-seater world championship.
"The last time I drove in single-seaters was in IndyCar, and I really enjoyed it. And as I’ve said, Gen4 is going to be a great, great championship.
"I’m sure the popularity is going to be at the top. The level is going to be at the top as well. We’re going to be close to championships like F1, even in terms of performance. So, yeah, hopefully I can have this opportunity."

Single-seaters what Pourchaire knows best
Pourchaire would fit comfortably into Formula E and has already proven to be fast in the current Gen3 Evo machinery.
He drove in the Miami rookie practice for Citroën in January before representing the French marque again in the Madrid rookie test, alongside supporting Stellantis’ Gen4 development.
Such is the driver's talent that he was entrusted in Madrid with preparing the team for the upcoming races, rather than focusing on personal development and improvement.
Things are starting to turn back in Pourchaire’s favour after a tricky couple of years, with him set to race for Stellantis brand Peugeot in the World Endurance Championship in 2026, while also serving as a Mercedes F1 development driver.
Despite it all, racing in Formula E next season for the arrival of the Gen4 era is what the 22-year-old is actively pursuing.
Asked if getting a Formula E seat is his top priority, Pourchaire said: "I think it is, in my opinion, because, for sure, I’m happy in WEC.
"The WEC programme is amazing, especially as a French driver representing Peugeot—it’s amazing. But single-seaters are really what I know how to do.
"I’m used to driving in Formula 3 and Formula 2 and performing there. I’ve been an F1 reserve, as I said, done a bit of IndyCar and Super Formula, and I can perform in single-seaters. I know Formula E is very special and different, but I’m feeling confident about it.
"So that’s it. If I can have this opportunity, for sure, I will take it."
