Should Max Verstappen stay with Red Bull for 2027?

Max Verstappen has endured a difficult opening half to the 2026 season, sitting seventh in the drivers' championship with just 76 points and no wins from nine grands prix.

The four-time world champion has suffered two high-speed spins at the last two rounds, the first in qualifying at the Austrian Grand Prix when he lost the rear at Turn 9 and crashed into the gravel, and the second at Silverstone, where a rear-wing malfunction sent him spinning into the gravel at Stowe on lap 48 while running third, ending his race. 

Both incidents left him visibly frustrated with the RB22.

Rumours are now swirling that Verstappen could choose to leave Red Bull, with reports suggesting a performance-related exit clause in his contract allows him to depart if he is not in the top two of the championship by the summer break. 

McLaren is reported as the most likely destination should he opt to go, with talks said to have advanced significantly.

Yet there is also another possibility. Verstappen has repeatedly expressed his desire to compete in endurance racing, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, raising the prospect that he could step away from F1 entirely.
