Carlos Slim Domit, a long-time friend of Sergio Perez, has weighed in on the Mexican driver's F1 future following his renewed commitment with Cadillac.
Slim Domit is the son of Carlos Slim Helu, one of the wealthiest men in the world and the founder of Escuderia Telmex, who funded Perez's junior racing career in Europe in the mid-2000s.
The Slim family remained an avid supporter of Perez throughout his F1 career, which has included stints at Sauber, McLaren, Force India and Red Bull.
Perez has since gone on to become one of the most experienced drivers in F1 history, with his home race in Mexico today set to be his 300th start, making him only the seventh driver to ever reach that milestone.
The 36-year-old sat out the 2025 campaign after his exit from Red Bull, but was quickly snapped up by Cadillac, who saw his experience as a valuable asset for its debut season.
Speaking exclusively to RacingNews365, Slim Domit voiced his joy at seeing Perez back competing in F1 full-time.
"It was a big challenge, a lot of work to make this happen," he said.
"He's a driver so complete today; he's a driver who is still very fast. He's very committed.
"He wants to consolidate his career, after all the many things that he has done, to develop, to commit, to develop a new team such as Cadillac.
"He's at a very good stage. We all, as fans, wanted him back, and now we have the chance to see him competing again at the Mexican Grand Prix.
"And very specially, as a coincidence, it's his 300th grand prix, happening in his home [country]."

Perez F1 future will not be dicated by 'age or physical issues'
Ahead of Perez's home event, Cadillac announced that Perez would remain at the team until at least the end of the 2029 season.
At that stage of his career, Perez will be 39 years old, but Slim insisted that it is not a factor that will be an issue for Mexico's most successful driver.
"I think it will depend on him. Physically and mentally, he can go for a long time. But it will depend on him.
"He also wants to be very close to his family; always, when he's with the team, he's 100 per cent focused.
"It will depend more on him than on age or physical issues.
"I'm very proud to be his friend and to have lived with him through this tough career that we've experienced together.
"Watching firsthand the sacrifices that he had to make to be here, the huge work that he has committed to doing, and his mantra: he is really a person who has never given up.
"He lost his seat many times, with no bright future ahead, and he never gave up, and that's the picture of his career."
