Yuki Tsunoda has become the second F1 driver this season to face early power unit issues.
Following a crash in the opening practice session of the season, ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Haas was forced to change elements of Ollie Bearman's power unit, which immediately put him on the back foot for the remainder of the campaign.
Bearman's system required a new internal combustion engine, turbocharger, MGU-H, and MGU-K, as well as a new exhaust. There was also a gearbox change.
Racing Bulls driver Tsunoda has now followed suit following the first - and only - practice session for this weekend's Chinese GP at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Like Bearman, Tsunoda has also taken a new internal combustion engine, turbocharger, MGU-H, and MGU-K, and exhaust. The reason is, as yet, unclear.
This year, four of each of the primary elements—ICE, TC, MGU-H, and MGU-K—can be used before grid penalties are applied, compared to three last season.
It remains the case, though, that only two control electronics and energy stores can be used. A third draws a grid penalty.
