Schumacher: I must find a different driving style from my father

Mick Schumacher may be the son of a seven-time world champion, but he insists that he must find his own unique style in order to successfully overcome the many hurdles he will face in F1.

Mick Schumacher says he is determined to forge a new driving style for himself, amid the endless comparisons to his father, Michael Schumacher. As the son of a seven-time world champion, it has been speculated that Schumacher junior, who will drive for Haas in 2021, will mirror his father in terms of style and approach. However, the 21-year-old claims that the complexities of the sport in the modern age mean that mirroring such a style is impossible - even if he wanted to. "I have to go a different way", the 2020 F2 champion told Der Spiegel. "My driving style would not have been right 20 years ago. Of course, my father is my idol, and I take a look at what was important to him as a racing driver". As well as speaking about driving styles, Mick also admitted his affection for one of his dad's former teams. Michael Schumacher drove for both Benetton and Jordan in the early 1990s, but the legendary German driver is most well known for his time at Ferrari. He would win five world titles for the Scuderia, something that appears to have left a mark on Mick, who is now a part of Ferrari's young driver academy. "I have a very emotional bond [with Ferrari]" the Haas youngster admitted.
