Mick Schumacher has taken a swipe at the lack of support offered to him by former team Haas and Team Principal Guenther Steiner. The German joined Haas in 2021 and was retained following a challenging rookie campaign that saw the team lodged at the back of the field. But after a drawn-out driver market saga, the American-owned outfit confirmed it would replace Schumacher with Nico Hulkenberg, who had been out of a full-time seat for three years - Steiner pointing to the number of incidents across the season as a key issue moving forward. Having joined Mercedes as reserve driver for the current campaign, Schumacher has been given a new perspective on life in F1 and told Sky Sports Germany : “I can see now how it should be. “My two years [at Haas] didn’t show me that. “You can't assume a driver will perform at his best if you don’t support him in the right way. People will never hand you the flowers; you have to pick them yourself. I know that now. “I now feel very ready to attack again and to show what I can really do.”
F1 title still the goal
Schumacher is targeting a return to the grid in the near future, however it is unlikely that the 2020 Formula 2 champion will find a seat next year. Despite being demoted to the sidelines, Schumacher asserts that his ultimate F1 goal is still achievable. “There isn’t much movement at the moment [in the driver market], many drivers are already set," added Schumacher. “Getting into Formula 1 was the first goal. The second goal, becoming World Champion, is still open.”
