Williams will fit their new Formula 1 car upgrades to Logan Sargeant's car in Austria after the package worked well for the team in Canada. Alex Albon scored the highest points total for the squad in a dry race since 2017 when he finished in seventh place on merit, putting them further ahead of AlphaTuari in the Constructors' Championship. The team pushed the updates through amid lack of parts on an old specification and it appeared to improve their pace, which Team Principal James Vowles said was a result of their dedication. "Without that upgrade I'm confident that we wouldn't have the points on the table today," he said in their post-race debrief video. "That is really a testament to the dedication the team has to this year's championship and our future championships.”
Sargeant to get improvements at next race
Williams plan to give Sargeant the car upgrades at the next round in Austria according to Vowles, after the American suffered a disappointing retirement with an unexplained problem a few laps into the race. Vowles believes the Red Bull Ring will suit the team less, but is confident that putting Sargeant on the same specification will give them opportunity to maximise any potential points haul. "We go from here now onto Austria, a track that will suit us slightly less but with this car working well our intention is to get Logan onto the same specification so we can maximise the points we can score," he added. Sargeant has yet to score points in F1 in his debut season, with his highest finish so far being a P12 at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
