Sargeant: F1 performances being masked by lack of results

The American rookie believes his performances have been better than the results suggest.

Logan Sargeant believes his "good trend" of improving Formula 1 performances is being hidden by a lack of standout results. The Williams racer has a best finish of 11th to his name during his first half-season in Grand Prix racing, having struggled at times, including finishing 20th in both the Miami and Spanish GPs. However, the team noticed a breakthrough for Sargeant at the Austrian GP, with his results since then in Austria, Britain, Hungary and Belgium being 13th, 11th, a-classified-but-not-running-at-the-end 18th and 17th at Spa. The Williams was the victim of higher-than-expected tyre degradation at Spa owing to its lack of downforce in the second sector, but Sargeant remained upbeat about the trend of his campaign.

Sargeant's improvements

"The last four rounds, from a driving point of view, we don't have the results to completely show for it," Sargeant told media including RacingNews365. 'But it has been a really good trend in the right direction. "From a personal side, I'm really happy to see that. I know I need to clean some things up, and that is what we are going to focus on for the second part of the season. "If I can take everything I've learnt, start off on a better foot and make that next jump." Sargeant also dismissed the idea that the summer break would harm his recent momentum, believing the break would help him. "Knowing how I am, these breaks really help me," the Floridian explained. "It is a good chance for me to take a good week, week-and-a-half off to have some time to myself, reset and then dig back into it - and I always come out stronger on the other side."
