Carlos Sainz is seeking answers after a "weird" issue struck him during Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying. New rules trialled by F1 and Pirelli this weekend mandated drivers to use Hard tyres in Q1, Mediums in Q2 and Softs in Q3. This led to a number of different practice programmes and tyre preparation tactics being employed up and down the grid, with some drivers and teams faring better than others. Sainz was eliminated in the second segment at the Hungaroring, ending just 0.002secs adrift of Fernando Alonso in 10th.
Sainz problems
"I've been feeling weird with the Medium compound all weekend, every time I was running it," Sainz told media including RacingNews365. "For some reason, we were always struggling a lot in Sector 1 in getting them to work and it was even harder than the Hard tyre. "I knew Q2 was going to be a tough session for us, we got through Q1 nicely but then as soon as I put that compound on again, I was sliding a lot in Sector 1 and was not able to put a decent lap together. "The lap wasn't too bad, but I just lacked a bit of grip, it is a shame, but it was two-thousandths, which in new F1, costs you a lot. "We have to analyse it, it is impossible to analyse during Qualifying, but I am sure we will come up with an understanding why. "It is unfortunate that on this particular weekend, you have to be using the Medium in Q2, but that's how it goes."
