Sainz reveals what made him really angry in 2020

Carlos Sainz says he is generally an easy-going person, but there was one occasion during the 2020 F1 season where he became extremely angry.

Carlos Sainz has admitted that, whilst he is generally easy-going, there was one occasion where he became very angry during the 2020 F1 season - the Russian Grand Prix. The Spaniard suffered an embarrassing first-lap retirement from the race when he crashed his McLaren into the barrier at Turn 2 of his own accord, an incident that left him so furious with himself that he struggled to get to sleep later that night. "I think it was Russia, this year - 2020," Sainz told Soy Motor when asked about the last time he got really angry. "I was very angry with myself, I'm not going to deceive you. "I crashed into the wall by myself. Imagine how pissed off I was. I was very angry with myself and I remember that I had trouble sleeping that night." Despite his fury, Sainz admits that he tends to deal with anger by himself and manages to avoid taking it out on others. "I don't usually take it out on people. Maybe I'm a bit shy in that sense," the new Ferrari driver said. "It's hard for me to be confrontational, to get angry. Unless I have very strong reasons, I don't jump. I try to think things through twice." When it comes to life off-track, Sainz finds himself getting angry over what he considers to be over-usage of his mobile phone. "There are many times when I regret the amount of free time I waste on my mobile phone," he explained. "The amount of free time we waste nowadays with our mobile phones. This is something that makes me angry, because it is something that I would love to change, but then you are too lazy to change it. It even makes me feel bad to talk about it." When asked how he would like to improve as a person, Sainz even names this as his primary concern. "I think the mobile phone thing. To be much less dependent on technology, just a little bit." Sainz will hopefully be too busy to worry about his phone habits in the coming weeks as the Spaniard prepares to make his debut for Ferrari alongside new teammate Charles Leclerc, with the first race of the 2021 Formula 1 season to take place in Bahrain on 28 March.
