Carlos Sainz has admitted that he struggled to approach qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix with confidence following his heavy practice crash, but ended the session pleased to be starting on the front row. The Ferrari driver made a hard impact with a concrete wall during practice, when he crashed his car during the track's narrow Sector 2, and woke up on Saturday morning with neck issues. But he was able to fight through the pain to secure P2 on the grid for Sunday's race, alongside teammate Charles Leclerc at the front. "Building up from a pretty heavy crash wasn't easy at all, to get the confidence back at such a difficult circuit like this new one in Miami, but I kept it cool until Q3," he said. "I think I pulled out a couple of good laps, not quite enough for pole position, but given where I was coming [from] yesterday, I will take it."

Sainz's Friday crash limited his practice time ahead of qualifying and, as a result, his long runs were sacrificed. That means the Spaniard is yet to do a race-style stint behind the wheel of his Ferrari before tomorrow's race. "It is gonna be an interesting day with everything that's going on this weekend," continued Sainz. "I haven't put high fuel in the car and tried it, so tomorrow's laps to the grid will be the first time to have a feel. "It could be quite challenging, but at the same time, I'm feeling confident with the car. The car is really good to drive around here, so I think we can do a good job."
