Russell questions Red Bull superiority hope as history looms

The Milton Keynes-based squad has won all 10 races thus far in the 2023 season ahead of Hungary.

George Russell has suggested Red Bull has been affected by F1's wild fluctuations in the pecking order. While Red Bull has won the past 11 races - there has been no contender break out to consistently challenge them as the second best. Red Bull has been unchallenged en route to securing victory in each of the past 11 races - including the 2022 finale in Abu Dhabi - with its sights set on a new record of 12 in a row in Hungary to eclipse McLaren's 1988 tally. Best of the rest has fallen between Mercedes, Aston Martin and Ferrari for the majority of the opening 10 rounds of the campaign, with each taking it in turns to come closest to Red Bull. But a surprise performance from McLaren at the British Grand Prix added a fourth team to the front-running mix behind Max Verstappen, who has won each of the last six races.

Russell's hope

"At the start of the year, the Aston Martin was really, really strong and have now maybe taken a small step backwards - it is the same with Ferrari at certain races," Russell told media, including RacingNews365 . "I'm sure even Red Bull to a small degree [have been impacted], at some races they were 30 seconds ahead, [at Silverstone], they were three seconds ahead, albeit with the Safety Car. "But they weren't running away with things so we are closing the gap, and it seems like the whole field is slightly more compact which makes it exciting and the small details make a big difference. "We're focused and have got P2 in the Constructors' in our sights and that's what we are aiming for but we are still pushing for more to try and get some race wins along the way."
