After leaving Renault at the end of last season, Daniel Ricciardo would have wanted a stronger start to his F1 career with McLaren in Bahrain but was thwarted by a collision with AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly which curtailed his performance. The Australian driver came seventh in the opening race of this year, compared to his teammate Lando Norris who put in a strong drive to finish fourth, and by his own admission it was a struggle to get the pace he wanted from the car. However, despite the somewhat disappointing start to life at his new team, Ricciardo said that he was already more comfortable with the McLaren than he was after several races with Renault when he joined in 2019. "This feels like very familiar territory from two years ago," Ricciardo told RacingNews365.com and other members of the media. "But even so, then Bahrain was race two and I remember feeling still quite deflated. At that point I felt like I still had a lot to learn then from the new car at Renault. "Here I definitely don’t feel like I’m as off the mark as much as then and I feel like the progress in this process now will be faster."
