Daniel Ricciardo has been officially welcomed back to AlphaTauri's Faenza F1 base. The Australian's return to the grid was announced after the British Grand Prix after Red Bull opted to oust rookie Nyck de Vries after only 10 races. Dutchman de Vries, who arrived with an impressive CV having been champion in Formula E and F2, as well as impressing on his F1 debut with Williams at last year's Italian Grand Prix, failed to gather any momentum and was unable to match teammate Yuki Tsunoda. His struggles offer Ricciardo a welcome return to F1 following his dropping by McLaren at the end of last term after two difficult seasons with the Woking-based outfit. Red Bull is adamant, however, the eight-time race winner has proven his ability enough in the simulator and during a Pirelli tyre test post-Silverstone to make a competitive return, having signed as third driver over the winter. In a social media post, Ricciardo is shown being welcomed back to Faenza with rapturous applause ahead of his second debut with the team - formerly Toro Rosso - at the Hungarian Grand Prix next weekend.
