The 2025 24 Hours of Daytona gets underway later today at the Daytona International Speedway, where some of motorsports biggest names will fight for victory in the Rolex 24.
Amongst the 235 driver-strong pack are 14 ex-F1 racers, including Kevin Magnussen, whose BMW will start from pole, courtesy of team-mate Dries Vanthoor.
Also included in the race-leading Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class is Tom Blomqvist, who won the Rolex 24 with Meyer Shank in 2022 and 2023.
Last year, the British driver pulled off a sensational overtaking move on former F1 driver Felipe Nasr for the lead of the race.
Then competing for Whelen Cadillac Racing alongside Jake Aitken and Pipo Derani, the ex-Formula E and IndyCar driver passed the Porsche Penske car around the outside heading into Turn 1, splitting a GT car in the process.
That move came with fewer than three hours remaining on the clock, but unfortunately for Blomqvist and co, a full-course caution with just under an hour to go afforded the Porsche Penske the opportunity to re-take the lead in the pit lane, having saved fuel during its previous stint and, despite late pressure, was able to hold on for victory.
Both Nasr and Blomqvist are competing in the 2025 edition of the race. The former has stayed with the number 7 Porsche Penske crew, whilst the latter is suiting up for Meyer Shank again in the number 60 car.
