Red Bull issue worrying update on Ricciardo’s fracture

Ricciardo suffered a metacarpal fracture last Friday at Zandvoort

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has provided a worrying update on the hand fracture that ruled Daniel Ricciardo out of the Dutch Grand Prix. Ricciardo crashed at Turn 3 during the second free practice session and suffered a metacarpal break to his left hand. The Australian driver underwent successful surgery in Barcelona on Sunday - but Marko says that the breakage is more complicated than the team first thought. "Unfortunately, the fracture is complicated. It's not a straight fracture," he told S ky Sports Germany . Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner previously outlined that Ricciardo was likely targeting a return at the Singapore Grand Prix. However, Marko says that this is now an unlikely scenario. “In all likelihood, the AlphaTauri driver will also miss the next two races in Italy and Singapore. “We will get confirmation from the doctor, but it looks bad for the next two races.”

Wish him all the best

AlphaTauri CEO Peter Bayer added: ”I spoke with his manager. The surgery went well, even if the fracture was more complicated than expected. “He will stay in Barcelona for a few days for observation. We wish him all the best." Liam Lawson was drafted up to the seat in place of Ricciardo and made his Formula 1 debut at Zandvoort. The New Zealander crossed the line in 13th place as he bids for a full-time seat at the Red Bull sister squad in 2024.
