Red Bull issue concerning Hungarian GP admission: 'We are not quick enough'

Red Bull technical director Pierre Waché issued the concerning admission that the Austrian outfit is simply "not quick enough" at this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.

The opening day at the Hungaroring proved highly challenging for the Milton Keynes-based team, with both Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar struggling for car balance.

Verstappen ended Friday fourth on the timesheets but seven-tenths adrift, while Hadjar was sixth, one second slower than pacesetter Lewis Hamilton.

Red Bull has several problems to solve with the RB22 ahead of third practice and qualifying, with the wind also catching the team out.

Addressing the opening day, Waché said: "A lot of complaints. Difficult to drive the car. Difficult to solve the issue with the massive change in the wind compared to FP1, which was quite a lot stronger. 

"It's difficult to find the line on this track because of the bumpiness. And the problem is, when the car is on the edge like that, a small perturbation massively affects the balance. 

"That is something we have to make better in terms of usability for the driver."

Third practice is set to be crucial to Red Bull's chances of a good result this weekend before the summer break.

Waché has recognised that there is no magic switch for the team, which must instead look to make progress "step by step".

Asked if second practice was representative, Waché replied: "I think it's difficult to say. I think it's clear we are not quick enough. We have to work on it and see where we will be. 

"We just have to try to see how we can improve. We cannot perform miracles; we just have to take it step by step."
