Red Bull hires more engine personnel from Mercedes

Red Bull have announced the addition of five hires for its new in-house power unit development team from Mercedes, joining technical director Ben Hodgkinson.

Red Bull have hired a further five personnel for its new in-house engine development team from Mercedes, joining the German manufacturer's former head of mechanical engineering Ben Hodgkinson who announced his switch last month. The new appointees include Steve Blewett as PU production director, Omid Mostaghimi as head of powertrains electronics and ERS, and Pip Clode as head of mechnical designs ERS. The combustion engine side will be led by Anton Mayo as head of PU design ICE and Steve Brodie, group leader ICE operations. All five had previously been employed by Mercedes at the company's sites in the UK. Red Bull also said that they would announce a new head of mechanical development in the coming weeks. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said the appointments demonstrated their commitment to the new powertrain operation, which will also include personnel from Honda's programme after the Japanese manufacturer exits the sport at the end of this year,. "Today’s key leadership team appointments demonstrate our strong commitment to those goals and we certainly benefit from our campus being located in the UK where we have access to a huge wealth of engineering talent," he said. "Working with our new Technical Director, Ben Hodgkinson, and alongside key personnel retained from Honda Racing Development, each of the senior personnel announced today bring a wealth of experience, expertise and innovation to the Red Bull Powertrains programme and provide us with the strongest possible technical platform for the future.”
