Rain set to spice up Hungarian GP qualifying?

After blistering heat for practice on Friday, we could be in for a twist for qualifying.

All week long the weather forecast has indicated nothing more than unbroken sunshine and searing temperatures over the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. That was certainly true for the two practice sessions at the Hungaroring on Friday as temperatures rose to 31 degrees Celsius, and the asphalt fry at 59, as was the case in FP1. Saturday has so far proven a different story as persistent cloud cover has seen the thermometer drop to 26 centigrade, whilst rain is now threatening to throw a spanner into the works. Three-quarters of an hour ahead of qualifying, and just as the F2 sprint race concluded, light rain could be felt, whilst the forecast on the FIA system declared there to be an "increasing chance of rain by mid-afternoon". McLaren's Lando Norris goes into qualifying as favourite after his performance in FP3 in which team-mate Oscar Piastri was only 0.044s adrift, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen three-tenths of a second off the pace.
