Racing Bulls have been handed a €5,000 fine following an unsafe release of Arvid Lindblad during qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.
The incident took place during Q3, when Lindblad was released from his pit box directly into the path of McLaren's Oscar Piastri.
The Australian was forced to take evasive action to avoid a collision as the Racing Bulls car entered the fast lane.
Fortunately, no contact was made between the two cars, but the stewards nonetheless deemed the release dangerous enough to warrant the financial penalty.
A statement from the stewards read: “Car 41 was released into the path of Car 81, requiring the driver of Car 81 to take evasive action to avoid a collision.
“The representative of the Competitor of Car 41 acknowledged that the release was the result of an error of judgement by the team and accepted responsibility for the unsafe release.
“Consistent with previous similar incidents during qualifying sessions, and taking into account that the driver was merely following the team's instructions, the Stewards imposed a fine of €5,000 on the Competitor.”
Both drivers went on to complete the session, with Piastri qualifying eighth and Lindblad ninth.
