Porsche Penske retain control at Daytona 24 Hours amid numerous stoppages - 12h report

Porsche Penske still lead the 63rd edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona. It is currently the middle of the night at the Daytona International Speedway.

Porshe Penske continue to control the 24 Hours of Daytona from the front at the halfway stage of the Rolex 24 in Florida.

It was a long and perilous evening at the Daytona International Speedway. Whilst there had been just one full-course yellow (FCY) four hours into the legendary race, the subsequent eight hours saw six more.

By the 12-hour mark, eight cars had been forced into retirement, with countless others pushed down the order with various issues, including the #31 Cadillac Whelen of Jack Aitken, Earl Bamber, Felipe Drugovich and Fredrik Vesti some 50 laps down.

The quartet had been leading through the night before a left-rear suspension failure for the lattermost driver saw the GTP car carrier into the wall at Turn 4. Having been towed back to the pits, the crew set out on extensive repairs to keep their entry running.

The #40 Cadillac of Louis Deletraz, Kamui Kobayashi, Alex Lynn and Jordan Taylor caused chaos around 9 PM local time, with Deletraz dropping the GTP car at a FCY restart, taking out multiple others in the process.

Through it all, however, the #7 and #6 Porsche Penske cars have persevered, with Ex-F1 driver Felipe Nasr leading Matt Campbell. Scott Dixon sits third for Meyer Shank in the Acura.
