Porsche has announced that it will hand reigning DTM champion Ayhancan Güven his second Formula E outing, in the upcoming Miami rookie practice.
Ahead of first practice in the Miami E-Prix at the Miami International Autodrome, the annual 40-minute practice session solely for rookie drivers will take place.
Formula E's third round in Miami will be held on January 31st, with the rookie practice taking place. a day prior – each team must run one driver.
For Güven, it will represent his second appearance for the factory Porsche Formula E outfit, having been fielded by the team in last season's Berlin rookie test where he had six hours of running.
The 28-year-old is a hot favourite for a Formula E seat next season, in Porsche's second factory team which will be introduced for the start of Gen4 (end of 2026).
However, as of yet, the Turkish driver is unable to compete in the all-electric series, due to not holding having enough FIA super licence points.
In a bid to achieve the necessary points for next season, Güven, who was part of Porsche's junior programme, he will be competing this year in the World Endurance Championship with Manthey, who he won the 2025 DTM title with.
“Ayhancan could break new ground for Porsche Motorsport," said Porsche Motorsport Vice[ President, Thomas Laudenbach. "Until now, our junior development has not been focused on single-seater racing.
"From the 2026/2027 season, when we will field two additional cars in Formula E, this will also open up new opportunities in that respect. However, the hurdles for Can are high because he has not previously been a single-seater driver before so currently lacks the FIA licence points required for a future in Formula E.
"In 2026, he will compete with Manthey in the FIA World Endurance Championship – where he could earn those points. So, we have a plan and are supporting Ayhancan.
"But it is also clear that he must continue to prove himself within the Formula E project – next in Miami."
Güven's first Formula E outing last April in Berlin marked his single-seater debut, having spent his entire career in sports cars. He impressed Porsche massively, having gone second-fastest in a test dominated by F2 race winners.
"I’m really happy about the opportunity to be back in the 99X Electric and to start the Miami weekend for Porsche with the Rookie Free Practice," said Güven.
"It’s always an eye-opening experience to work with such a professional group of people, and I’m looking forward to it."
