Tickets for grands prix are high for a number of reasons, including enabling circuits to be able to pay the race-hosting fee negotiated with F1.
For many races, government financial assistance helps but the British Grand Prix does not receive any backing from the UK government, meaning Silverstone must find other ways of raising money to pay to host the race.
In the build-up to this weekend's event, circuit boss Stuart Pringle explained that he felt Max Verstappen's dominance of F1 in recent seasons was one reason ticket sales remained low for what is usually a sell-out race. The fans, though, quickly pointed out the cost of tickets.
For example, a three-day general admission ticket for Friday-Sunday of this year's race will cost £349 per person, meaning a family of four would be expecting to pay £1,396 before other costs such as travel, accommodation and food were factored in.
On Thursday, the British drivers were questioned about the price of tickets, with Mercedes' George Russell defending the high prices.
Russell explained that for what is on offer across the weekend, including music acts King of Leon and Stormzy, the price was fair. Team-mate Lewis Hamilton also wondered if a change in business model, to allow outside investment into the race, could be a way forward for Silverstone.
