Pierre Gasly has reacted to Alpine's radical decision to halt development of its current car so early in the season, a campaign which the Frenchman conceded he does not care about.

Alpine decided very early in the year to halt development of its A525, in order to put as much effort and focus as possible on getting the new power units right.

Next season, F1 will undergo a major regulations change, which will see the power units consist of a 50/50 balance between electrical power and internal combustion.

For Alpine, it is also becoming a Mercedes customer outfit for the new regulations, having decided to end its run as an engine manufacturer in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Due to Alpine's decision to end developments so early in the season, Gasly and Franco Colapinto have often had the worst car on the grid at the majority of grands prix.

Despite the frustration of scoring very few points, Gasly defends the Enstone-based team for making the call to focus fully on 2026, especially if he is given a strong car next year.

Asked if he wishes Alpine continued to develop its current car, Gasly said: "If it gives me better results next year, I literally do not care about this season - and it will be all worth it.

"Because the reality is what we could have fought for this year is still not good enough for us.

“And these couple of weeks or months can potentially give us a head start on some other teams and bring much better success, which is what we are seeking, ultimately.

"So, yeah, fully backing the team in what we did. It’s a bit drastic, but sometimes to achieve greatness, you’ve got to make tough choices."
