Pierre Gasly will not suffer a grid penalty for the Chinese Grand Prix Sprint following a stewards investigation into an incident with Max Verstappen.
Towards the end of SQ2, Gasly was slow out of the Turn 14 hairpin, but off to the left-hand side of the track as Verstappen came through on a flying lap.
The Red Bull driver claimed that the "Alpine is on the racing line out of the last hairpin, it's ridiculous!"
In the end, Gasly qualified in seventh place for the Sprint, with Verstappen in eighth on a difficult afternoon for Red Bull, who also had Isack Hadjar in 10th.
However, in their investigation, the stewards heard whilst Verstappen came across Gasly on a flying lap and on his "optimal and prefered racing line", he was not impeded by the Alpine.
Gasly had decided to stay to the left-hand side of the track as it was the "safest option", and although the stewards felt he could have "theoretically taken a different approach" and stayed to the right, as Verstappen was not "unnecessarily impeded", no further action was taken.
