Oscar Piastri has pointed the finger at himself for spinning during the Australian Grand Prix, following a mistake as heavy rain descended at Albert Park.
Piastri started his home race from second but was quickly overtaken by Max Verstappen at the second corner, before later getting back past the Dutchman.
The Australian driver was settled in second behind his team-mate, and looked set for a comfortable podium in tricky conditions.
However, his hopes of a home rostrum went up in smoke on Lap 44 after being caught out by a sudden heavy rain shower.
He followed Norris off the circuit and through the gravel on the exit of Turn 12, before spinning off at the next corner and becoming stuck on the soaked grass.
Eventually, Piastri escaped the grass and returned to the circuit, although was towards the bottom of the field. In the end, the McLaren driver recovered to ninth.
The 23-year-old was visibly dejected after his home race, and accepted that he could only blame himself for the driver error.
"Yeah, it's obviously pretty disappointing at the moment," Piastri told Sky F1. "I feel like for pretty much every lap, apart from one, that I drove an incredibly strong race.
"And it's just a shame to not have the result to show for it. So obviously, don't have anyone to blame but myself.
"I think it was probably a bit unfortunate to get stuck the way I did, but yeah, it was only myself that put me there. So obviously disappointed."
