Thankfully no harm was done but a memorable way to end his time with McLaren.

McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has vowed to "tidy up" his pit-stop act after what unfolded during the Belgian Grand Prix.

Piastri's second stop, in particular, was poorly executed as he overshot the box, almost sending his front-jack man flying in the process. The gentleman was seen shortly after rubbing his neck as a slow-motion replay showed the forces involved.

He still managed to play his part in raising the car, although Piastri's misjudgment ultimately cost him around two seconds as the stop was timed at 4.4s.

The Australian, who went on to finish third at the chequered flag before being promoted to second following the disqualification of George Russell due to an underweight Mercedes, has also conceded his first stop was not perfect either.

Asked whether it was one of his best races in F1 in terms of execution, speaking to media including RacingNews365, Piastri said: "I would say so - I'm not sure my front-jack man agrees."

Piastri - Not my finest moment

Explaining what unfolded, Piastri said: "I just went in a bit hot really. I felt on Friday there was a lot of grip in the pit lane and I was always undershooting the box. Even my first pit stop, I probably undershot it a little bit.

"I had to brake a little bit, with Lewis [Hamilton] coming out, so maybe I was coming in a bit slow, but the second one was clearly a little bit overdone. It wasn't my finest moment."

Piastri finished the race strongly as he closed in on the Russell/Hamilton battle for the lead, finishing 1.173s behind Russell and 0.647s off of Hamilton.

The 21-year-old feels the two-second loss on his second stop did not "cost much in the scheme of things", in particular given the surprising difficulty in overtaking around the Spa Francorchamps circuit.

"I think it meant I probably would have just been stuck behind Lewis and George for another lap or two at the end," assessed Piastri. "But yeah, obviously something I want to tidy up for all the other races."
