Piastri challenges McLaren over 'fluke' concern

The Australian is upbeat about their prospects to continue their current form at the next tracks before the Formula 1 summer break.

Oscar Piastri has challenged McLaren to prove recent form is 'no fluke' at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Woking-based outfit secured second and fourth at the British Grand Prix after introducing a significant upgrade in Austria, with the result turning heads with its rivals in the race for the best of the rest behind Red Bull. Despite Silverstone being reliant on high-speed performance, the Hungaroring is focused more on mechanical grip with its tight and twisty corners. McLaren will introduce the final updates for its current package before the summer break, as the team looks to turn around their fortunes after a tough start to the season. Looking ahead to Hungary, Piastri told media, including RacingNews365.com : "We know that Silverstone is another strong circuit for our car with all the high-speed corners. "Budapest has quite a few high-speed corners, or at least medium-speed corners too, so we'll see how we go. "We've proved two weekends in a row now that it wasn't a fluke. Will we be the second-quickest car in Hungary? I don't know. But I think we can definitely try and aim for that."

Piastri: Updates have been a step forward

McLaren has now overtaken Alpine in the Constructors' championship by courtesy of its strong results since fast-tracking its upgrade package onto Norris' car in Austria. On the improvements made, Piastri added: "We were very inconsistent at the start of the year and very dependent on track layouts, tarmac and stuff like that. "These upgrades have been a good step for over one lap. But clearly, on Sundays, we've made a massive step forward. "That's the most exciting thing. Even with the old car when the conditions were right for us we could be mega over one lap, but we always kind of went backwards on Sundays."
