Piastri bemoans "first mistake" in F1

Despite a crash in Q3 at Montreal that brought out the red flags and essentially finished the session, Oscar Piastri says he is satisfied with his weekend's work so far.

McLaren's Oscar Piastri says his crash during Qualifying for theCanadian Grand Prix was his first major mistake in Formula 1. The Australian rookie had made it through to Q3 in wet andtricky conditions, but lost control of his MCL60 through Turn 7 on a push lap, slamming backwards into the barriers and bringing out the red flag. Piastri's mishap would indirectly settle the final grid order, as by the time his McLaren was cleared and the session had resumed, therain had intensified to the point where no drivers were able to better their laptimes. Despite his crash, which he called his first mistake in F1, Piastrisaid he was largely satisfied with how his weekend had gone. The Australian did not suggest that his accident would mean any keycomponents would have to be changed on his MCL60, meaning he is set to line upeighth on the grid for Sunday's race. "I think it's been a reasonably encouraging weekend," Piastri toldmedia, including RacingNews365.com . "I think most of qualifying was good, apart from Q3, so all inall, quite happy. "It's my firstsort of major mistake – I had to get the first crash out of the way at somepoint. Just too aggressive on the throttle and that was all. Easy to do. "A shame and sorry to the mechanics, who now have more work thanthey need. But all in all, I'm still reasonably happy with how the weekend’sgone."
