Perez lays down gauntlet to self after F1 'rough patch'

The Mexican finished second to Verstappen at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Sergio Perez is targeting a podium in every race to the end of the year after overcoming a self-confessed "rough patch". The Mexican continued his return to form with second at the Belgian Grand Prix, behind only teammate Max Verstappen who dominated despite starting sixth on the grid. Perez entered the weekend 110-points down on Verstappen after a miserable six-race run that included five events without a Q3 appearance in a row - second in the Drivers' championship now his main focus. Addressing his race after finishing 22.3 seconds behind his teammate, Perez said: "It was a good race for the team."

Rough patch

"We had a great start, managed to get through Charles and just doing my own race. "Max came through pretty fast in the second stint, so nothing I could have done there and then afterwards, it was just making sure we could drive home safely without too much damage in the car. "I really looking to not leave the podium anymore from now until the end of the year. "It has been a bit of a rough patch but we have managed to score good points for the team. "I really need the summer break. It has been intense so I look forward to coming back very strong for Zandvoort."
