In 2014, Formula 1 introduced a penalty point system in order to punish drivers who consistently caused accidents during race weekends.
Certain in-race offences are punished not only with a time penalty but also with points - any driver that accumulates 12 points in 12 months is handed a ban for the next applicable race.
Points carry over from one season to the next, with Pierre Gasly infamously having 10 points to his name by the end of last year, meaning he had to take extra care to keep out of trouble in the opening rounds this season.
Currently, there are no drivers in the danger zone but it's Red Bull's Sergio Perez who is atop the list on seven points.
A number of drivers don't currently have any points to their name - they include Alex Albon, Fernando Alonso, Pierre Gasly, Charles Leclerc, Kevin Magnussen, Lando Norris, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri and Daniel Ricciardo.
