Pascal Wehrlein offers Formula E fighting talk in second title pursuit

Pascal Wehrlein has no issue speaking about being in the title fight, despite only three of 17 races being completed in Formula E.

Pascal Wehrlein has offered a bout of fighting talk ahead of Formula E's double-header in Jeddah, with the German's eyes firmly set on chasing a second drivers' title.

It has been a largely solid start to the season for Wehrlein, who sits second in the standings and just two points adrift of leader Nick Cassidy — while Porsche leads both the teams' and manufacturers' championships.

The Season 10 world champion has shown good pace across all three races so far this campaign, although he is yet to have an entirely smooth weekend.

What has already become clear is that it looks set to be an incredibly close year, particularly as Formula E reaches the end of the Gen3 era.

Naturally, the final year of the current regulatory cycle was always going to see the teams closely matched, with Wehrlein outlining the importance of making the most of each E-Prix.

Discussing the pack being incredibly close this season, Wehrlein told RacingNews365: "Yeah, definitely. That is my feeling, and that's what everyone expects. We are in the last season of a generation cycle.

"So everyone knows this car pretty well — and most of the tracks too — so you kind of know where the car should be and what you have to do. It’s more about fine-tuning and, obviously, maximising the weekends.

"The positive thing is that even though none of the first three weekends felt like a clean weekend, we are right at the front of the standings.

"That is obviously positive, because in every race, basically, I can find something that compromised our weekend. It’s just about putting those weekends together."

With it being very early days in the season, the likes of Oliver Rowland and Nick Cassidy have brushed aside talk of a title fight.

Wehrlein, on the other hand, has no problem thinking about the championship and is pushing to reclaim the crown he lost to Rowland last year.

Asked if it is too early to think about the title fight, Wehrlein replied: "Well, I don't mind. I'm fighting very hard for this championship. I want to win it again.

"I know it's early days, but those points are important in the end. So I know my goals, I know my target, and I want to be in the fight for it. I don't mind whether it's early or late."

Formula 1 engines follow the same rules — at least on paper.
In this video, we explore a fascinating Mercedes engine theory that is engulfing the F1 paddock, with Red Bull quietly part of the story. Not an illegal trick, but a clever interpretation of the regulations.
At the heart of the controversy is a rumoured approach to compression ratios, measured legally during FIA inspection, but potentially very different once the engine reaches operating temperature.
We break down how it works, why it matters, and why this advantage — if real — may be brilliant, legal… but only temporary.
Because in Formula 1, every grey area eventually disappears — one way or another.
