Pascal Wehrlein addresses missed Formula E title fight opportunity: 'I'm giving everything'

Pascal Wehrlein has addressed missing a huge opportunity to reduce his deficit to Mitch Evans in the Formula E drivers' title fight, stressing that he is "giving everything".

The Porsche driver had looked set to score valuable points in the last round in Sanya just over a week ago before his race suddenly fell apart following a red flag in the closing stages.

Ultimately, Wehrlein received a five-second time penalty for making contact with Norman Nato, resulting in the Frenchman's immediate retirement.

In the end, Wehrlein finished 14th and failed to score, in a race which staggeringly saw Evans, Oliver Rowland and Edoardo Mortara – the top three in the championship – all fail to finish.

As a result, the German remains fourth in the standings and 27 points adrift of Evans with six rounds remaining, two of which will take place at this weekend's Shanghai E-Prix.

Leaving Sanya without a point was frustrating for the Season 10 world champion, who is adamant that the title contenders are now getting their elbows out.

Asked if Sanya was a missed opportunity to reduce Evans' lead, Wehrlein told RacingNews365: "I'm giving everything.

"I feel like I did a really good race until the red flag and, yeah, I was making good moves, positioning myself well and, obviously, also taking more risks, which was paying off until the red flag.

"Afterwards, it just fell apart a bit. It's a very fine line. The good thing is there are still six races to go, and we are all giving our best.

"Obviously, in the last couple of races, the elbows have started to come out a bit more and things are shaping up more, so, yeah, we are all here to give our best and try to win [the title]."
