Oscar Piastri refused to elaborate on his costly time penalty during the British Grand Prix, expressing his comments would get him “in trouble”.
Piastri led the opening phase of the race held in torrid conditions and was forced to contend with several safety car restarts as multiple cars spun off the road.
At one particular restart, the championship leader applied the brakes as they prepared to get underway once again.
It prompted a complaint from Max Verstappen, who pulled ahead of Piastri as he seemingly anticipated the Australian had got back to full speed.
Piastri was issued a 10-second time penalty, which after being served in a pit stop, dropped him behind Lando Norris.
Norris went on to win the race in front of his home crowd and close the gap to Piastri in the drivers' standings.
“I'm not going to say much,” Piastri said. “I'll get myself in trouble.
“Apparently you're not allowed to brake behind the safety car anymore. I did it before for five laps.
“Heck it. I'm not going to say too much, I'll get myself in trouble.”
Piastri, however, took time to commend Nico Hulkenberg who secured his first podium in F1 on his 239th time of asking.
“Well done to Nico,” he added. “I think that's the highlight of the day.”
