Oscar Piastri singles out one thing his recent F1 results 'don't always show'

Oscar Piastri believes his results in F1 this season have not fully reflected the progress he has made as a driver during a difficult start to McLaren's constructors' title defence.

The Australian has endured an inconsistent opening 11 rounds and sits seventh in the drivers' championship with 02 points.

He is still without a victory this season, having won seven grands prix last year as McLaren secured the constructors' championship in Singapore with six rounds remaining, and he took the drivers' fight down to the wire, missing out to team-mate Lando Norris in the Abu Dhabi season finale.

Piastri pointed to the lessons he has taken from challenging weekends as a key positive, despite McLaren falling short of last year's level.

"I think the good results have been one thing, but I feel like I've also learned a lot about how I can improve myself as a driver, even if the results don't always show it," Piastri said.

McLaren is third in the constructors' standings on 220 points, 159 behind Mercedes and 87 adrift of Ferrari. The Australian driver has claimed two podiums but reliability problems in Hungary and two DNSs have hindered his campaign.

Asked to assess the first half of the season, Piastri admitted McLaren has not consistently performed at the level expected after its 2025 success.

"Definitely up and down," he stated. "I think our kind of general level of performance has not been quite where we want it to be, obviously. We've come close to some victories and had a few podiums, which has been good, but we obviously set the bar pretty high last year.

"We've also had a fair share of issues, whether it be difficult races or reliability problems. So definitely up and down."

Piastri identified Japan and Miami as his strongest weekends in terms of results, but also highlighted Austria as an important response to a tough Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

He finished fourth at the Red Bull Ring after starting seventh, one round after ending the round in Spain 58 seconds behind winner Lewis Hamilton and 35 adrift of Norris.

"Results-wise, Japan and Miami were both good weekends," Piastri said. "I think also Austria was a good one. The result was reasonable, with the P4, but also in terms of the turnaround from Barcelona and just how I felt the weekend went.

"Barcelona was definitely one of the more difficult weekends of the year, and I had to learn a lot from that one and improve quite a lot, and I feel like Austria was really good to bounce back and put some of that learning into place."
