Oscar Piastri opens up on F1 struggles: 'More lows than highs'

Oscar Piastri has admitted there have been “more lows than highs” during his 2026 F1 campaign.

The Australian entered the sport's new era under fresh technical regulations just a handful of months after narrowly missing out on a maiden F1 title.

It took until round three of the season before Piastri turned a racing lap as he suffered two non-starts at the opening two rounds.

After picking up a duo of podiums in the immediate rounds that followed the difficult start, McLaren suffered a blip in form, and Piastri has not returned to the podium since his third place in Miami.

“There have been highs and lows, for sure,” Piastri told media including RacingNews365. 

“Probably more lows than highs, unfortunately. For us as a team, it’s obviously not been the first half of the year that we would have liked, especially compared to last year.

“Hopefully the second half of the year can be better.”

Piastri was in contention for the race victory last time out in Hungary before losing the lead to team-mate Lando Norris during the pit stop phase when he ran into trouble with a backmarker.

The 25-year-old later retired from the grand prix to mark a disappointing end to the opening half of the campaign - however, he is hopeful the second half will generate an improvement.

“For myself as well, there have been some good moments, some not-so-good moments and pretty much everything in between,“ he said.

“I want to be able to improve and be a bit more consistently on top of my game, and hopefully we can do that in the second half of the year.”
