Oscar Piastri delivers 'intense' Lando Norris fight reflection: 'Pushed the limits a bit far'

Oscar Piastri conceded that he "pushed the limits a bit far" during his "intense" battle with Lando Norris, which saw the Briton secure Austrian Grand Prix victory. 

Piastri started in third at the Red Bull Ring but immediately overtook Charles Leclerc for second, before setting his sights on his team-mate. 

The championship leader spent the entirety of the first stint of the race within a second of Norris, and only briefly moved ahead for a matter of seconds. 

However, he almost made contact whilst trying to force a move at Turn 4, resulting in a huge lock-up for the Australian to avoid hitting the rear of Norris. 

McLaren informed Piastri that the overtaking attempt was over the limits, following on from Norris hitting him in the Canadian Grand Prix. 

In the end, Piastri settled for second, causing his title lead to be reduced to 15 points ahead of Silverstone.

When asked what the battle with Norris was like, Piastri answered: "Intense. I hope it was good watching, because it was pretty hard work from the car. So, yeah, I tried my absolute best. 

"And, probably could have done a better job when I just got ahead momentarily. But yeah, it was a good battle, a bit on the edge at times, and probably pushed the limits a bit far. But yeah, it was a good race. 

"That's what we're here to do, try and race each other and then try and fight for wins, and that's what we did today. Was close for me, but not quite enough. 

"So thanks to the team, to have the kind of pace we did whilst battling each other was very impressive. So I can't thank the team enough for the car we've got."
