Christian Horner narrates a hilarious anecdote about how he had to negotiate with McLaren's Ron Dennis in order to get Adrian Newey's prized drawing board out of the clutches of the Woking-based team. Adrian Newey is arguably one of modern Formula 1's greatest designers. The Englishman has won titles with Williams, McLaren, and more recently with Red Bull. Prior to joining Red Bull, however, Newey made a request to Horner, something the Red Bull team principal recounts quite hilariously. "When he (Newey) left McLaren he said, 'Christian, I really like that drawing board I had it at Williams, I took it to McLaren, I'd like to get it out, can you get it from McLaren for me?'" Horner narrated at a Red Bull press event. "'If I (Newey) asked Ron Dennis there's no way he's gonna give it to me.' So I (Horner) rang, Ron (Dennis) up and he gave me a 15-minute lecture, I got a major roasting about this. "He (Dennis) said you need to make a donation to charity if you want that drawing board. So we (Red Bull) made a generous donation to a charity to get that drawing board out." Going the extra mile certainly benefited Horner as his Red Bull team won four consecutive driver and constructor titles between 2010 and 2013 with Newey's design playing an instrumental role in Red Bull's domination of the sport.
