Ocon anticipating 'normal' tracks to benefit Alpine

The Alpine driver is hopeful the run of permanent tracks will benefit the team as they look to finish higher up the competitive order.

Esteban Ocon is anticipating the upcoming run of "normal tracks" should provide Alpine more opportunities to challenge for points higher up the order. The team has only scored one podium so far in 2023, despite their aims to claim more silverware as part of their 100-race plan to get back to challenging for championships. Out of the seven races so far, there has only been two that have taken place on non-street track facilities. The Frenchman hopes the teams historical knowledge of the circuits before the summer break will play to their advantage. "It was a super weekend last year for us, I think I finished fifth or sixth in the race and the car was super capable, and I hope we can do the same," he told media, including RacingNews365.com . "Those are tracks that we know very well, more normal tracks and a bit less risk. Let's see what we can do. I'm gonna be enjoying the European season."

Ocon optimistic about Sprint weekend gamble

Alpine has plans to bring upgrades continuously throughout the season in its bid to close the gap to rival teams. Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer said the team is prepared to take the risk on sprint weekends , despite limitations on spare parts. Ocon it optimistic about their chances to finish high in the upcoming Sprint event at Austria. He added: "We've had in 2021 extremely good sprint races. Before 2023, I probably had the best rate of gaining positions together with Fernando in sprint races."
