Lando Norris has revealed ahead of the United States Grand Prix that he is "confident" he can catch Max Verstappen in the F1 drivers' title race
The McLaren driver enters the 19th round of the season 54 points behind the three-time F1 champion after finishing third in the Austin sprint behind Verstappen who converted pole position into the win.
For the grand prix, Norris starts from pole, with Verstappen riding shotgun on the front row.
Asked how he sees his battle with the Dutchman, speaking to media including RacingNews365, Norris said: "I think we've seen it for the last five, six weekends.
"I know people ask every weekend if this is a weekend that's going to change something. It can go my way. It can go Max's way. So I keep focused on doing what I'm doing.
"I've been doing a good job. I'm happy with how things have gone. Like I said, I've not always been happy with the final result for different reasons.
"But I'm happy with what we're doing as a team and how we're working together."
Despite Verstappen still boasting a commanding lead in the championship, Norris believes he can catch the 27-year-old.
However, the Briton recognises for that to happen, a result has to be more than him finishing first and Verstappen second in the remaining races.
"I'm confident if we just keep our heads down and keep pushing, we can do it and we can close the gap," added Norris.
"It's not easy. I need more than just me first and Max second. But I can't change that. So I just need to focus on myself and leave the rest to everyone else."
