Lando Norris was left to rue misfortune on a day when Max Verstappen grabbed this year's F1 drivers' championship by the scruff of the neck.

With Norris starting from pole position and Verstappen 17th, it appeared the perfect opportunity for the McLaren driver to take a considerable bite out of the Dutchman's 44-point lead going into the race.

Verstappen pokes fun at British media after Brazilian brilliance

Max Verstappen was finally able to have some fun at the expense of the British media following his stunning performance in the São Paulo Grand Prix.

From 17th on the Interlagos grid, Verstappen delivered arguably the drive of his F1 career to take the chequered flag for the 62nd time and become only the sixth driver in 1121 grands prix to triumph from that position or lower.

Norris receives crucial stewards verdict

Lando Norris has been punishment following an investigation by the Sao Paulo Grand Prix stewards for a potential infringement in the aborted start procedure.

The 24-year-old was given a reprimand and fined €5,000 by the FIA. The McLaren driver was not alone in receiving the reprimand as George Russell, who was also on the front row of the grid, was handed one, too.

Hamilton and Russell learn Brazilian GP fate after 'unique' situation

Mercedes has been hit with a five-figure fine following the São Paulo Grand Prix for a pre-race technical infringement.

Mercedes was found to be in breach of a technical directive relating to the tyre pressures on the cars of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

2024 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix - Race result

Max Verstappen delivered arguably the greatest drive of his F1 career in clinching victory in the São Paulo Grand Prix.

Starting from 17th on the grid at Interlagos, Verstappen did not put a wheel out of place in the atrocious conditions, whilst virtually all of those around the three-time F1 champion struggled to keep their cars on the track.

Max Verstappen has one hand on a fourth consecutive F1 drivers' title following a remarkable drive to victory in the São Paulo Grand Prix.

From 17th on the grid, Verstappen mastered the appalling conditions, and with his main rival in McLaren's Lando Norris only sixth, Verstappen has now stretched his advantage over the Briton to 62 points with 86 on the table.
