Nick Cassidy mastered monsoon-like conditions to win the second race of Formula E's Shanghai E-Prix, ending a one-year wait for victory.

The Jaguar driver had not won since Berlin last season, but converted pole position into victory in horrific conditions.

Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa secured a double Porsche podium in second and third, whilst championship leader Oliver Rowland finished in 13th.

It means Rowland cannot win the title in the next round in Jakarta, with the championship to at least go to the Berlin double-header in mid-July.

How the race unfolded

Due to substantial rain fall ahead of the race which led to troubled third practice and qualifying sessions, the second e-prix of the weekend in Shanghai started behind the safety car.

Pole sitter Nick Cassidy led the field, ahead of Porsche's Antonio Felix da Costa. Championship leader Oliver Rowland qualified in 17th. The safety car led the field for the first six laps, before a rolling start took place.

All positions remained the same when the rolling start took place, with it having created immediate gaps in the field which opened the door to an immediate attack mode.

The wet weather and safety car start also meant energy saving was not required, making it a flat out race. Overtaking was near-impossible in the nasty conditions, with moving off the racing line having resulted often in aquaplane.

Wehrlein had found himself close to Cassidy after the first attack mode, but fell several seconds adrift after going off the circuit at Turn 7. Elsewhere, Kiro's David Beckmann span twice.

Minimal overtakes took place in the midfield, with the front running places having remained unchanged for the entire race. However, most made a place after Maximilian Günther retired due to a red car.

At the front, Cassidy was able to cruise to his first victory of the season, whilst Wehrlein and da Costa secured a distant second and third.

With the conditions having been so difficult, progress was not possible to be made by Rowland, meaning the title will go to Berlin.
