While Red Bull reached a significant milestone in Canada when Max Verstappen crossed the line to win, Adrian Newey has also managed to achieve his 200th victory in his 34-year F1 career. Newey started off his career in 1988 at March/Leyton House, before a move to Williams in 1991 produced his first victory at the Mexican Grand Prix by Riccardo Patrese. He later produced five Constructors' Championship-winning cars at Williams, before a move to McLaren in which their car won the 1998 Constructors' title. His next run of success would come at Red Bull, with four Constructors' titles between 2010 and 2013 with Sebastian Vettel, before another in 2022 with Max Verstappen. "It's really been an amazing journey, it was my dream always to be an engineer in motor racing and so when I got my first job in motor racing and salary, that was the big moment. Everything else has been a bonus," he told Sky Sports . Out of all his successes, which one does Newey think was the best? He answered: "The ones that stand out are the first at Mexico and then where the championship has gone down to the wire. "This was very often Abu Dhabi with Sebastian [Vettel] against Fernando and then obviously Max against Lewis."
Newey: Retirement realistically on a countdown
Red Bull has recently reached an agreement to extend his contract for the foreseeable future , despite an offer for Newey to join Ferrari. He also previously indicated to RacingNews365.com that he had no intention of retiring in the near future. This was reiterated when he was asked the question following his impressive milestone: "I'm sort of lucky enough to be doing what I've always wanted to do enjoy it. Realistically it's on the countdown. Exactly when that day is, I don't know."
