New Verstappen trophy update after Norris podium blunder

Verstappen's winner's trophy was shattered on the podium, but a replacement is almost ready...

Max Verstappen's Hungarian Grand Prix winner's trophy replacement is nearing completion.

The Dutchman secured a dominant victory at the Hungaroring last month, beating McLaren's Lando Norris by 33 seconds.

But as the Briton kicked off his traditional champagne celebration with a tap of the podium, the elegant porcelain trophy perched on the edge of the top step fell and shattered.

Herendi Porcelán, the Hungarian company behind the trophy, quickly announced that it would produce a new trophy for Verstappen.

The original handmade version took more than 30 people nearly half a year to make, but since the design, patterns and colours no longer need to be reworked, the process has this time been shortened.

"Production started at the beginning of August and the painting and gilding work is currently underway. We will be ready by the end of September at the latest," company CEO Dr Attila Simon told Formula.hu

"We would like to thank all F1 fans for their positive reactions. It confirms that we made the right decision when we took on the free replacement of the trophy.

"As promised, we will replace the broken trophy free of charge and look forward to the moment when we can hand it over to Max Verstappen."

Norris to visit?

Insisting there are no hard feelings against Norris for his actions - given he was widely criticised on social media for his lack of attentiveness to the situation - it was added: "Everyone is welcome to visit our visitor centre to experience the extremely high level of craftsmanship involved in creating this porcelain trophy.

"However, we have had no communication with his team about a visit and are currently concentrating on the new trophy."
