Mortara addresses Mahindra Formula E 'rumours'

Mahindra started the new Formula E season by equalling its most points ever scored in an opening round.

Edoardo Mortara has addressed "rumours" in the Formula E paddock that Mahindra has one of the strongest packages.  Mahindra enjoyed an exceptional start to the new Formula E season, with Mortara and Nyck de Vries finishing fifth and sixth in the São Paulo E-Prix, respectively. It marked a significantly better start to the campaign than it endured last season, where points were not scored until the 10th round in Berlin.  In just one race, the Banbury-based team has scored 38% of its total from Season 10, highlighting its progress.  A lot of that progress is courtesy of a brand-new powertrain for Gen3 EVO, which has caught a lot of attention in the FE paddock.  Several teams looked at Mahindra in Brazil and pinpointed them as an outfit to watch.  Despite the rumour, triggered by an excellent performance in a private test in Majorca, Mortara believes it is too early to judge how strong the team's car is. "These rumours came after a private test that we had in Mallorca," Mortara told RacingNews365 . "Yes, we were extremely competitive there, but it's just a private test on one specific track where we will not race.  "Sometimes in motorsport, you have these kind of situations where you find yourself being extremely competitive and even sometimes not competitive at all, because probably the track is not really suiting your package.  "So we will see, I hope that we can be challenging more regularly the frontrunners. But the gap was quite big at the end of last season, and one thing I've learned in motorsport, these kind of big gaps, they never shrink quickly. "It takes a lot of effort, a lot of time for the engineers actually, to make a car more competitive."
